I feel compelled to do a review of Bazaar Meats after a visit there the other evening. The hubbs was in DT Chicago for official business and asked me and my son to join him there in the evening. It was a special evening for him and he wanted to take us out for a quick bite. Nothing over the top – just a quick dinner and then drive back home. We landed up in Bazaar Meats. Now, I have to mention that this restaurant has two floors, the one on the bottom is a bar and more casual – which he thought he was reserving. But we ended on the second floor – this is a more formal, sit down place. The food is tapas style with small plates and caters to meat lovers primarily. But the seafood and vegetarian options were really awesome too. All in all a wonderful experience.

Some of the highlights – Jamón Ibérico De Bellota. it is hand cut as you can see here in the video. The meat is from acorn fed black footed Spanish pig. The meat was like nothing I’ve tasted before. Delicious, rich and extremely flavorful. A must for all meat lovers.
We also loved the classic tartar which was mixed in front of us with many sauces and an egg. It came with the tempura battered shiso leaves which gave a good crunch proving to be a good blend to the softness of the tartar. It’s made with the Vaca Vieja which translates to “old cow” so this was made with a more mature animal – around 8 year old working cow. This was simply superb.
Next in meats was the Rosewood Ribeye – half wagyu and half angus which means it’s as fatty as a wagyu cow but as beefy as an angus steak. Super good. We also had the yellowfin tuna with little eggs fried on top (sorry no picture) and the Spanish octopus which was scrumptious too.

In the vegetarian we had the patatas bravas – perfectly cut potato – soft from inside and crisp on the outside. The aioli and tomato sauce accompanied the fries and they were perfect. We also had the Brussel sprout leaves which was kind of a salad. This was the best brussel sprout preparation Ive eaten – with fruits and lemon air (the foam on top). It was so fresh and refreshing.
Each course was separated with a palate cleanser – this is the only one we took a picture of. It was a mint lime sorbet in olive oil. It was so so good. The icing was the cheesecake – nothing like we have ever eaten before. So so good. A must try if you’re there.
All in all a wonderful experience.
I’ve also done a video on our experience. Click here to watch.
