This time it was just my son and me as the husband was traveling for work. We had been to Proof No. 5 a new hip place in downtown Wheaton and on the way there saw this little place called Burma O’ Clock. We hadn’t eaten Burmese food before so decided to try it. So, on a lazy Saturday, I called and made a reservation (which was kinda unnecessary as the place was empty, except for one other table that was occupied). Funny thing – they don’t have a way making reservations online.
If you like eating delicious food at quaint little places and don’t care for upscale decor or vibe, this is the place for you. It is truly a gem. There was only 1 server the day we visited, and he doubled up as the host. We ordered the following
- Drinks – sopporo, Grass jelly drink
- Appetizer – Burmese Fritters
- Entrees – Pickled mango Pork and Shrimp Curry
- Dessert – Banana pudding
The only alcoholic beverage available was the sopporo so I’m guessing they do not have a liquor license. My son ordered the Grass jelly drink. It was nice, full of little pieces of jelly and not too sweet.

The funny thing is our entrees came out before the appetizer but we didn’t mind. Both entrees were bursting with flavor. The shrimp curry had lots of veggies in it like green bell pepper and squash which had imbibed the taste of the curry in them. The curry was very halfway between a Thai and Indian curry and very suited to our Indian palate.

The showstopper, however, was the picked mango pork. It was made with pickled green mango which gave the curry the right amount of sourness and oomph! The medium sized pieces of pork with soft and melting in the mouth. Both Dyaus and I regretted not ordering the Parontha – well, it gives us an excuse to go back there again.
The fritters were great too. They were made of vegetables mostly and were crunchy and crisp with a tamarind sauce which was quite close to the India tamarind chutney. It was a large serving so we go it back with us and Dyaus had it the next day.

Our bill was just shy of $100.00 ($ 97.45 with gratuity and taxes). Not bad at all. Do give this place a try if you’re in the Wheaton area. Let me know if you like it.
