Here are some of the restaurants we ate at. You might want to visit these places?????

fish dish latitudesIf you are visiting the Keys, you simply have to visit and eat at the Latitudes restaurant. It is part of a luxurious hotel/cottage chain called The Sunset Key Cottages. This is located on an island which they own so you will have to take a ferry there. Make reservations in advance…well in advance. I tried dinner reservations the day we reached Key west… six days in advance. It was impossible to get. Luckily we got lunch reservations and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is delectable but so are the views. We have promised ourselves that we WILL come back here and stay at the Sunset Key Cottages. It will be a dream.

This is actually a shack (a little food truck type place) in the Old town area. We were just roaming the lovely little shops in the area when we came across this place. At 11 am in the morning it had a half a mile long line to get to the cashier. It was worth standing in line. The lobster roll was to die for. Delicious and fresh beyond belief.

My salad at LaTeDa

We stopped for breakfast at this cozy restaurant. The restaurant is part of a hotel with the same name located in the Old Town area. The staff is extremely friendly, and by friendly I mean pet friendly too. The servers welcome Mr Fitch with open arms. It is a hot day and Mr Fitch is thirsty. They even give him a bowl of water without me asking for it. The food is fresh like all the other places in Old Town and overall it is quite a pleasant experience.

Drenched in the sun at Azure as we wait for breakfast

Yet another cozy little place worth a visit in Old Town. Again we are here for breakfast. We are seated in their little patio. It is lovely with the sun streaming in and warming us up. Foodwise – very good. Definitely worth a try.

Our seafood plate at The Stoned Crab

Sid (My husband) called this place a tourist trap. It has probably got the best location of any restaurant in the keys. This place is part of the Ibis Bay resort on a road that you HAVE TO take to get anywhere in Key West. Right on the water, it sits there with its huge sign. I think this is the reason most people walk into this place. My boys had their Jet Ski tour starting at the Ibis Bay resort so we decided to eat there – much against Sid’s protestations.

In all honesty, the place is good (not great but good). The ambience is extremely casual and you certainly cannot go here for a nice dinner but when you have a ravenous thirteen-year-old craving seafood at 11 am in the morning, this is not such a bad place to be. You can see what Dyaus (my son) and I shared in the pic. Doesn’t it look scrumptious? The taste wasn’t anything to write home about but the stuff is absolutely fresh. Even boiled fresh seafood tastes great so we lapped it up.

A and B Lobster house https://aandblobsterhouse.com/

We always do an elaborate dinner on the last night of our vacation. This time we zeroed in on A and B Lobster house. It is bang in the center of all the action so parking is bit of a problem. Fortunately, the little parking lot next to the restaurant had some empty spots when we arrived. If you ever visit this restaurant make sure you sit in the balcony that wraps all around it. The views are beautiful. We even saw some sharks sitting right at our table which was next to the water. I had the lobster with lump crab Oscar style with bernaise, which was yummy.

I hope you enjoyed this two-part blog. If you ever vacation in Key west you may want to visit some of the places we did.

  2. We are in agreement with all but 1 of the restaurants. We went to the Stoned Crab in September 2020, absolutely the worst food we have ever eaten in my life. I sent it back uneaten, and they didn’t take it off the bill. Insult thrown on top of injury. My husband ate his “steamer,” ended up in hospital. Shrimp had funny taste he said. Nurse in hospital said she ate there only once, and said shrimp tasted funny. Flies, along with ambiance. Any restaurant that can make a steamed potato inedible, DO NOT EAT THERE.
